Community Health Engagement at Aapna Services Easter Fayre
Bringing Health Support into the Community
During the event, we offered free blood pressure checks, shared health information, and provided signposting to appropriate local services. We were also available to speak with attendees about access to healthcare and potential barriers, creating a visible and approachable presence for anyone seeking advice, reassurance, or guidance on available support.
Uptake of the blood pressure readings was positive. While several attendees shared that they usually have their blood pressure checked during GP or hospital visits, many also reported that they had not been tested recently. Attendees welcomed the opportunity to access blood pressure readings in a familiar, accessible, and comfortable community setting, highlighting the value of offering health checks outside of traditional clinical environments.
Of the 17 blood pressure readings taken during the event,
- 1 was recorded as low,
- 5 were within a healthy range,
- 7 were slightly raised, and
- 4 were identified as high.
Attendees who recorded a high reading were advised to continue monitoring their blood pressure and to seek further advice from their GP where appropriate. All participants were provided with additional information and guidance on maintaining healthy blood pressure levels, reinforcing the importance of ongoing awareness and preventative health measures.
