We heard a wide range of views. While many people were open to using digital tools, others were more resistant—often reflecting a broader preference for non-digital options in everyday life. A key theme was the importance of human interaction and face-to-face contact, highlighting the prevention of loneliness to support overall wellbeing.

Barriers to Getting Online

For those interested in digital healthcare, the main barriers were the lack of confidence and skills and also not knowing where they could go for help and support.

Although most people were aware of the NHS App, only a few were actively using it. This suggests there is real potential to increase uptake—particularly with the right guidance, reassurance and trusted ongoing support in place.

Overall, the conversation highlighted the importance of choice. People value having different ways to access healthcare and want to feel confident that traditional methods will remain available alongside digital developments.
