Health and Wellbeing Support at Newport Hub
Alongside the health services on offer, we were present to raise awareness of the NHS App and self-referral services, speaking to people about how digital tools can support them in managing their health. Conversations on the day highlighted a mix of awareness and experiences:
- Four people we spoke to had not previously heard of the NHS App
- One lady who uses the app shared positive feedback overall, but expressed frustration that the appointment booking feature was not working
- Another gentleman explained that he does not own a smartphone and prefers more traditional ways of accessing services, highlighting the importance of maintaining inclusive access options
We were also able to offer direct support through conversations on the day. After listening to a discussion with one of the dental hygiene students, we were able to signpost them and a member of the public to our website, where they could find up-to-date information on accessing urgent dental appointments. The students were going to share this information with the other students when they returned to Uni.
The visit highlighted the importance of partnership working, bringing together health professionals, students and community services to deliver accessible, preventative care.
