Spotlight Award Winner: Angela Hannaford (Let's Sing) – A True Community Superstar
Angela is the driving force behind Let’s Sing, a community singing group she founded out of her love for music and its power to transform lives. A talented singer and pianist, Angela lights up every room she enters. What began as a small idea quickly grew into something extraordinary. With the support of Boosbeck Village Hall, Angela launched the group with just 10 members. Today, Let’s Sing welcomes 25–30 participants at each session—no experience required, just enthusiasm and a love for music.
But Angela didn’t stop there. Recognizing the profound benefits of music for people living with dementia, Angela led the group to become Dementia Friends through Dementia in Action Teesside. This training ensured the sessions were fully inclusive and accessible to more people. Every month, the group brings joy to Daisy Mae Tea Rooms in Redcar, singing, dancing, and laughing with some of our most vulnerable community members. They also visit care homes, village halls, and local events, spreading positivity and connection wherever they go.
Angela’s commitment goes beyond music. She has secured funding from Tees Valley Rural to cover transport and music resources, tirelessly pitching and planning to keep the group thriving. Her efforts have even earned the group an invitation to perform at the Age Friendly event in October—a well-deserved recognition of their impact.
For many, Let’s Sing is more than a singing group; it’s a lifeline—a place to find friendship, support, and meaningful connections that boost both physical and mental well-being. Angela leads by example, always the first to give back, whether donating to raffles or rallying the group to support local causes.
The world truly needs more people like Angela—someone with a big heart, great intentions, and an unwavering commitment to making life brighter for everyone. Through her passion and perseverance, Angela has created something extraordinary, and we are proud to honour her as a Spotlight Award winner.
