What is the role of the Health Improvement Team?

The aim of Redcar and Cleveland Health Improvement team is to improve health and well-being in Redcar and Cleveland and reduce health inequalities in the borough.

The JSNA for Redcar and Cleveland highlights that in Redcar and Cleveland there is inequity in the life expectancy and quality of life lived by residents living in the Boroughs more disadvantaged wards compared to those living in the more affluent parts of the borough.

As a team they have adopted an Asset Based Community Development approach to their work which recognises the strengths and assets that exist within individual communities reflecting the evidence-based approach recommended by Public Health England. They work with local communities, build capacity and empower communities to improve health and well-being and address health inequalities.  The work of the team focuses on prevention and early intervention.
