Why did you decide to become a Community Champion?

By joining the network of community champions, we aim to strengthen our relationships and knowledge around local services and provisions which will enable us to provide better care to our patients, offering them more opportunities to better their lives and breaking down the barriers to accessing services that they may not access without support. We look forward to joining this network of community champions, learning together and building lasting relationships that will benefit the people we work with and the wider community.

How does your role help people in South Tees?

In our role as Support time Recovery (STR) workers we provide practical support and advice, and guidance to individuals with mental health challenges and/or learning disabilities and who are currently in hospital. Our main aim is to help these individuals connect with local resources and support networks that will aid their recovery and prevent future relapse, whilst also facilitating a smooth transition back into community.
