Judith Chatfield - NHS

Why did you decide to become a Community Champion?

I've decided to become a champion for the purpose of extending my outreach within Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland to those in the 20% most deprived areas and those who experience additional barriers to healthcare.  It will also enable me to be an additional voice on their behalf.

How does your role help people in South Tees?

My role is to engage with community groups to raise awareness of healthy lifestyle choices in order to help reduce the risk of cancer, recognising early signs and symptoms, and promoting the uptake of cancer screening appointments.  I also offer information sessions to volunteer and staff groups and support local events with promotion stands on cancer awareness/healthy lifestyle choices. The aim is to help address health inequalities and to reach those groups who are seldom heard.
